Ways to Give Back to Your Community
If one of your goals for 2018 was to help give back to the community, but you aren’t sure how you can do that, you’ve come to the right place. Giving back and volunteering in your community is a rewarding experience, and have the potential to have a huge impact on a lot of people. Below you’ll find some common ways you can help give back within your community.
Volunteer at Your Local School
Many people underestimate the power of helping out here and there at local schools. Educators are overworked and shorthanded, which is where help from the community comes in. Whether you read books to elementary age kids, monitor recess, or spend a Saturday helping at a sports tournament, your local schools are sure to be grateful.
Organize a Yard Sale for a Local Organization
With spring right around the corner, now is a great time to go through old closets, attics, and garages, and have a yard sale for the items you no longer want or need. Not only can members of the community who wouldn’t normally be able to afford certain items have the chance to purchase them, but you can give the money to a local organization such as the food pantry or a kids group.
Visit a Senior Center
Too often we see the elderly left at nursing homes when their families aren’t available to care for them, and most are desperate for conversation and connection outside the home. An hour or two a week can make a huge difference in their mood and demeanor, and you have the chance to make a new friend or two.
Coach a Local Youth Team
Kids love being active and playing sports, but often teams can end up without a coach to lead practice and games. Whether it’s baseball, softball, football, basketball, or any other sport you can think of, there’s sure to be open positions for coaches. Youth sports are vital for kids because of their ability to teach the teamwork and responsibility, so volunteer to be a youth sports coach today.
